Great Lakes freighter trip

Post by Lori on Mon May 30, 2011 1:38 pm

My BIL is captain of the Cason J. Callaway (in the U.S. Steel's fleet) and he's taking a few of us out for a few days. I don't have many details yet, but we'll be leaving around June 7th. As the time gets closer, we'll have to be ready to go at any time. I'm not sure where we'll be boarding, but we need to bring passports just in case we enter Canadian waters. MIL, 2 SIL's, a SIL of SIL, and I are going. Hope they put a spit shine on that baby before we get there! I'm excited!

I hope it's just a little warmer than the Alaskan cruise. I'd like to spend time on deck...just looking!

WOW - this sounds like a real good adventure. You will really get to see how things are done on board. Have a great time. As your time permits, post us pictures. Bon Voyage (June 7th).

No, his wife is coming, so she'll keep him distracted.

Sounds like an extended ferry ride on the Great Lakes!

I used to love to take the ferry from Ontario to Marine City, Michigan, as an alternative to the Blue Water Bridge from Sarnia to Port Huron. I always thought it was too short a ride! I loved the smell of the air and the few sights that were available on the St. Clair River.

Have a wonderful time and be sure to take plenty of pictures to share with us. And a few stories would be welcome too. Smile

Sounds like fun! I've been boating on Lake Erie and Lake Huron and there are some beautiful areas out there... Especially on Lake Huron. Enjoy the trip!
