Once again tea drinkers..

Post by KellyM on Mon Nov 08, 2010 7:36 pm

I've seen a couple teas that I'm curious about..if any of you have tried them could you let me know if they were any good?

The first one is called Silkenty Silken Pyramid Sachet Cube, Crimson Nights Tea, it sounds good, but it's on Amazon sold in a 3pkg purchase.
The other is Earl Grey..I've heard that most Earl Grey's arent that good unless they are loose tea, but supposedly according to reviews Two Leaves and a Bud Organic Earl Grey Tea is supposed to be good...

Anyone tried either of these?

Being a tea drinker, exclusively, I've not of the brand. Earl Grey is an acquired taste for black tea drinkers, of which I'm one. But EG is not a choice, only drink when no other is available... I'm always one for trying new flavors, but have no clue what Silkenty Silken Pyramid Sachet Cube, Crimson Nights Tea might taste light. My neighbor recently gave me a tea pyramid canister from Disneyworld... and I"ll have to say, one of the three teas is yum... Mad Tea Party Blend. Another is Earl Grey which I have not had, and the last is Lemon Honey Chamile which I'm thinking I won't care for at all.
So bottom line, I'd say stay away from Earl Grey unless you know the person loves it.. but all tea drinkers love surprise flavors (well this tea drinker does LOL) And if they don't care for the flavor, they can always offer it to guests when the arrive.

No, haven't heard of them.

I only drink herbal tea though, and Bigelow came out w/ Apple Cider tea... different.

I like Celestial Seasoings, they are pretty tame, but not shocking.

Yogi Tea is awesome. I love their Egyptian Licorice tea! They're herbal teas, so most of what I buy has specific properties (Blueberry Slim Life, Breathe Deep, St. John's Wort Blues Away).

To me, black tea tastes like black tea tastes like black tea. Unless it's flavored. But that's me. When I toured the Celestial Seasonings factory in CO, we learned that white tea is the scarcest (the top fronds of the tea plant that are harvested early) and highest in antioxidant properties, followed by green tea, and then finally black tea. They all come from the same plant. Since then I've just sort of blown off black tea. I don't even buy it, but DH recently picked up a pack. Which is probably good because MIL will only drink black, and I should have some to offer to her when she visits.

I'm a huge Earl Gray drinker, but have never heard of those brands so I'm no help.

So Rebecca, what is it about Earl Grey tea that you like? What is the flavor like?

SIL earlier dropped off a couple pyramid shaped bags of Lipton Blueberry-Pomegranate. It was okay. The flavor was nice, but the aroma was much nicer..lol Since the scent of the tea was strong and I could really smell the blueberry-pomegranate aroma I thought the flavor of the tea would be a bit stronger than it was so though it was nice, I felt a little cheated..

The taste is never as strong as the smell, at least that is my experience. Lipton tea is not strong enough for me, I make Iced tea that probably loks like your coffee....

I think our tea is usually a bit of a different blend than your's in the US... I don't know, I just know that I'm not fond of American tea brands and prefer the British or Canadian ones.
Earl Grey has a great Burgamot smell and taste... kind of a warm, citrus-y kind of flavour. If you can get Twinings Earl Grey, try that. It's a light flavour, but not so light that you think you're drinking warm brown water.

Re: Once again tea drinkers..

Okay, so today was the first time I actually REALLY looked in the tea aisle of the local grocery store. They had Lipton, Twinings, Celestial Seasonings, Bigelow, Stash and some others I can't remember. There are many I'd like to try. So I figured I'd just get one at a time and try them. They're relatively cheap. Today I bought Lipton pyramid tea bags in the Mandarin Orange Green Tea flavor. The orange isn't as strong as the Blueberry Pomegranate was which is also made by Lipton. Even though the orange isn't strong, I still like the flavor.. Next I want to try Red Raspberry..Bigelow, Stash and Twinings all had their version of it...

Well if your thinking of becoming a tea drinker, you're doing the right thing, trying different teas, but if you're doing it to try and find the right tea for SIL, you're over thinking it.... as a tea drinker, I always enjoy a gift of teas I wouldn't ordinaly buy,.. honestly I've learned that in trying something new, I find a new flavor, that I might just actuatialy like and will continue to buy,

Re: Once again tea drinkers..

Post by KellyM on Wed Nov 10, 2010 10:08 pm

Nope, it's for me. I already found out one SIL likes and I'll be getting a box of that to go with her tea for one teapot for christmas.
I wanted something to drink other than coffee and soda once in a while, something relaxing and enjoyable. I decided that I'd probably just never really bothered with tea much because I didn't really care for the couple I had tried. I find Hot chocolate is too heavy for me to drink before bed, and I don't really care for coffee that late though I have had it late before. It's nice to have something warm to sip on. I also bought myself a pretty tea set and have thought about just having tea with the neighbor, or family once in a while. Actually, I've been invited over to the neighbors tomorrow for tea. I don't know what she'll make yet. I know that she regularly drinks Blackberry tea, Irish breakfast tea, and mint tea with lime...so I will get to try one of those tomorrow. This Mandarin Orange Green Tea that I'm having now is nice..

I drink Celestial seasonings sleepy time tea before bed, doesn't knock me out, but helps. I drink Iced tea all day, literally over a gallon a day, only 1 soda though, I am cutting back on sugar...unsweetened tea, coffee, and water...and one Dr pepper.

I like Pomegranate teas, raspberry is not my thing, cannot stand the smell, but Twinings and Bigelow teas are good. Try a Chai tea also, I like it, although some don't

I actually have tried Chai tea before and do like it. But it would be something I wouldn't have often. I guess the trick is to find a few I like and keep a few different boxes going at once so I have a variety to choose from depending on my mood.

Don't waste your money on Sleepy Time Tea, Erin. Sleepy Time Extra is what you want.

My sister got to do a PT for Yogi tea and it was a bedtime version. She said she can't wait to see it out in stores, because it absolutely helped her get to sleep.

I think it's subliminal, since I can drink it almost anytime, and it does nothing....but at night, it works.i may try the Extra, anything that helps is good, since I am lucky if i get 4 hours a night lately.
