What are you ladies up to today?

Post by KellyM on Tue Sep 28, 2010 1:11 pm

Lets see, I havent' done too much so far today.. JJ had work, then came home, and is doing his work right now. I went to town with SIL and picked up some ghost solar lights for $5.00 each..they only had 3 so thats what I bought. I figure I can alternate them with my light up jack o'lanterns along my concrete walkway to the door. Making chicken parm tonight...I may or may not get back to painting in JJ's room tonight..

I did all the "touch up " painting that needed to be done this morning, from the kids and Xander pushing dining chairs into the walls, and bikes, cars, blocks etc....there was alot.. I have an appraiser coming early next week, so I needed to get it done. Other than that, cleaning, cooking, and sewing.

If I have time tomorrow I will repaint Bayley's room, she wants " Barely sage" so almost green, but really white....which is good because I have my limits. I am repainting my bedroom on Friday, also a light Sage, but I have to move the massive furniture first, so friend is coming to help.

Just finishing up my grandchild's laundry she didn't have time to finish last night. Put an apple crisp in the oven for this evening-makes the house smell so good. It's a beautiful day here- we are breaking a record for the warmest day in many many years. Enjoying the beautiful Indian summer and praying it lasts awhile.

Sam had a doctor's appointment to follow up on his hospitalization yesterday and when we got home we both crashed. Needless to say, I'm trying to catch up on all the laundry I didn't get done then and trying to give the bathroom a really good scrub as well.

I'm just avoiding working. Zoe is home with a low-grade fever.

Oh and she wants to post some stickers:

rendeer the red-nosed reindeer had a shiny nose
and if you ever saw him, you would even say it glows.
All of the other rendeer used to Laughing and call him names.
They never let poor rendeer play in any rendeer Basketball
Then one foggy Christmas eve santa came to say,
" rendeer with your nose so bright
won't you guide my sleigh tonight?"
Then how the rendeer I love you him
and they shouted out with cheers ,
" rendeer the red-nosed reindeer,
you'll go down in history!"

Dee, I think he's just getting tired of the whole rig-a-ma-role that we have to go through every year for Rani's boys birthdays and Christmas. We don't have that difficulty with Sunny's (one of my other SIL's) son Ethan. From the time Rani's boys Jay and Alex were born she would always invite a small army for their birthdays ensuring they would get plenty of gifts, that and they are the only grandchildren on BIL's side so his parents spoil them rotten (buying them each a 4 wheeler at the age of 4). Rani buys them way too much for example cell phones at the age of 4 and 8, buying them something every time they are in a store. Buying them mid size gifts on no special occasion because they "wanted it". ( considering their behavior, they don't deserve any of it). On their birthdays and Christmas they always end up getting "repeat" gifts because there aren't many local stores that people have to choose to shop from and they have pretty much everything. So everybody goes shopping to the same place to buy the things they don't have...stands to guess that they will get repeat gifts because of that. I make it a point to shop online for their gifts when I do the shopping for them. I left it up to Kris this year, hence the blunt e-mail.

When people get really specific about gifts, I get the kids books. They can never have too many books to read.

I will admit I am guilty, Xander has everything( except a cell phone....well he has a toy one), and I buy him something almost everytime we go somewhere. Not usually a big thing, but tons of little things. He has every toy a kid his age could want, even a 4 wheeler....battery operated though.

Re: What are you ladies up to today?

Post by Lori on Thu Sep 30, 2010 10:23 am

When I have grandkids I am not going to be that grandparent. I really find it frustrating having all that "stuff" around. I hated cleaning it all up when I had little ones, and I hated trying to find space for 30 more toys each holiday season. It really frustrated me that MIL has a set amount to spend for each kid. Not a fortune, but her gift-giving attitude is that the more things you have to open, the better. So rather than one special item, the kids would get all this, well, I won't call it junk, but you know what I mean. Having one more item to open is not a good reason to buy something. Or because it was $1 or $2 is not a good reason to buy it and wrap it up.

The older I get, the more I feel this way. It makes me really sad to walk through a mall and see all the crap they want us to buy. I've steered more towards gifts that are used up and gone - more practical things. Movie tickets, Lobster-Grams, homemade jams or jellies, restaurant certificates. It just makes me feel better. It'll be a challenge with grandkids, but I hope to find inspiration. Books are good! Unfortunately, not every person is a reader. I have one who is and one who isn't.

Re: What are you ladies up to today?

Post by KellyM on Thu Sep 30, 2010 11:20 am

Her boys are spoiled to the exteme erin...For example Alex is 4, she bought him Vans sneakers (not cheap). He's 4, he doesn't know the difference between Vans or Keds and frankly doesn't care. And much to her dismay spent part of the time she was here with him the other day taking rotten mini crabapples and stomping on them with his Vans sneakers. Or throwing his $130. DS on the floor because he was mad at her. More examples are destroying a cellphone so she could go out and buy them a new LG Chocolate phone with Data Plan! What 4 and 8 year old need a data plan? Its just unbelievably excessive.
For the first 3 years of each boy's life they recieved so many gifts for Christmas and birthdays because she invited so many people that it was standing room only. She had a pile of brand new gifts that the boys never played with because she didn't have room to put them all out and would forget that they were down in the basement. So she eventually ended up selling them at garage sales. This is the excess that I am talking about. She's told me numerous times that she wished they would appreciate things...buahahaha! She's shooting herself in the foot on that one.

OK, Xander is spoiled then, he has Van's, at least 4 pairs, and converse for his birthday. I prefer name brands, they last longer....but I bought them, he didn't ask for them. They are cute....and match mine and Dh's.

I cannot see him agetting a phone at 4 though. Bayley is 13, and when she gets a job she will get a phone...until then, she is SOL.

Yeah but it's different. If Xander was 4-5 and used his Vans/Converse to go stand in a mud puddle, (or stomp on rotten squishy apples) that would be a different story. After ruining the first pair or two doing stuff like that all the time, you might consider getting cheaper sneakers... She just keeps getting the ones she thinks are what the "popular" kids wear. Even though she knows in all likelihood that Alex will probably go stomping in all kinds of dirty, gross, disgusting things with them on purpose...

I guess it's her business really...but it irks me a bit because it becomes everyone elses business when they act like little jerks everywhere they go, and then she wonders why. Two days ago she asked me if there was a military school close by. I told her no, but if she wanted that Alex could come stay with us a few weeks, she said, Sure!, of course Alex was right there screaming, "no, I don't want to live with Auntie Kelly!" lol So then I told her that the spare room was available to her, she said as long as she didn't have to bring him with her... So she KNOWS how rotten he is, but continues to go on as before, so his behavior will never get better.

I can only imagine what they/he will be like as teens. She has her work cut out for her.... I see criminals with a "Mommy will fix it" attitude.

Kelly your extended family sounds like a good idea for a reality show (one I would never watch) or one that could use a Nanny 911 makeover... but for the parents, more than the kids... just saying.

for the most part my family is normal. Other than the in-laws and Wynonna's stuff once in a while.
Mom and dad are great, Kris loves them, they love him and me and my siblings get along well and don't mess in each others business. I love both of my BIL's and their families on my side and Kris does too. It's the in- laws on his side and Wynonna that bring the drama. Though on Wynonna's part things have been calm lately. She is atleast working on getting her GED right now..So though things aren't perfect with her yet but she's atleast starting somewhere by making a good decision to go for her GED.

SIL could definitely use Nanny 911 Smile Kris says it's not our worry, and for the most part he is right...if she wants to spoil them rotten, she's going to have to deal with the consequences. It becomes our worry when they misbehave here. However I've found that I can discipline him while he's here and she doesn't say anything. I guess I'm quite a bit different than her though. When my kids were little and we were visiting somewhere, I never would have waited for someone else to discipline my kids if they weren't behaving properly. I would have been mortified. I was always keeping my eye on them. Half of the time I think she's ignoring most of it as long as someone isn't screaming loud enough to alert the neighborhood..lol
