Today's Excitement....

Post by KellyM on Tue Aug 24, 2010 4:42 pm

About 20 minutes ago, JJ and I had just finished watching Shane for English. He got up to go in the other room and I was in the kitchen and the doorbell rang. It was a police officer, asking for JJ! JJ came out and I found out that he wasn't in trouble (thank goodness) but a month or so ago, there were a bunch of kids hanging around and two of them ended up getting in a fight and one ended up pressing charges against the other.
My issue:first, I don't like that everyone in the neighborhood saw a police car in our driveway..tongues wag in this town. Second, the person that subpeonaed him is the defendant..which doesn't make him look good (even though he's not directly involved in the case). Third, the "defendant" in this case is a young woman who doesn't have a very good reputation in this town. (I'm not saying she's a loose person) but she's a troublemaking dopehead. He doesn't associate with this girl, but by her subpoenaing him, it looks that way.. So Thurs, he has to go, I'm going to go with him and I guess we can call it a field trip for his You and the Law class he's taking this year.

Will JJ's story support the defendant or work against her story? I think it'll be exciting for him...and a little scary. Maybe they'll settle before court. That's what usually happens around here.

Apparently, from what he said happened, the person pressing charges is the one who is in the wrong and he would be testifying in favor of the defendant. He wouldn't lie in court for anyone, so I know he's telling the truth. I think the plaintiff pressed charges because they were counting on the defendant losing because of her reputation in the community.
Yes, I'm glad he isn't the one in trouble..

I'm glad she has someone to stand up forher. Some people think they can do anything to a girl with a bad reputation and it doesn't matter.

Well, today JJ did all of today's classwork and tomorrows classwork except for English. He will have English work to do when we get home tomorrow. On the other hand, we will go to the court house and if the case he's suppose to testify in, isn't dismissed. If not, then he will have his own experience testifying on behalf of the defendant in the case. I will take one pic outside of the courthouse (not allowed to take pics inside). I will make up a form on the computer and fill in the date and time we arrived, the amount of time we were there, and an area for JJ to write about his experience testifying, and any personal observations. That will document his "field trip".

Speaking of court cases....we are trying to evict a crazy realter who happens to be a serial renter! (rents, pays a couple of months, stops paying, and gets to stay for free several months until evicted). She rented 2 garages from us,filled them with junk(no car),and today we get a letter from our lawyer saying the court date is yesterday! My brother and I are LIVID and under alot of stress,God help us.

WTH, Athena? Does your lawyer also work for got2b?

Sorry, just trying to lighten it up. The stress has to be incredible. Shoot, even if you'd received the letter a day or two earlier you would have had to scramble to make arrangements last minute to get to court. I wonder if the renter showed up in court?

Good luck today, JJ and Athena! Hope everything works out!
