A project..

Post by KellyM on Mon Jul 26, 2010 11:06 pm

So when we went downstate for JJ's portfolio and stopped at my nieces on the way back, I also picked up a crib. I thought I would have it here and put it away for the day I have grandchildren. I checked it, and it fits safety standards, and it's sturdy and safe. The only thing I don't like about it, is that the finish is scratched and has some gouges in it. So I was thinking I would like to refinish it and paint it white. My mom suggested I sand it and said that if there were a child safe spray paint, that a spray paint would give the most even finish and not leave brush strokes. But neither of us know if there is a child safe non toxic spray paint and if there is, wouldn't I still have to give it some type of finish coat? If so, what would I use??

I'd suggest talking to the experts. Honestly, the people who work in our independent lumberyard's paint section and our local paint store know it all, including what's new on the market.

I would ask at a paint store, but we use Crayola paint on some stuff for my sister. also if it is a Drop Side crib, it is unusable. they have all been recalled. I am really ticked, since Xanders crib is a drop side, and I had planned on it being used more than once... I paid a fortune for it.

All of them? Wow! I had no idea. All of our kids slept in a drop side cribs. In fact, I was saving Quinn's crib for when Zaven and Caly had kids. Zaven is 17 so it'll be quite a while (I hope) but I still figured it wouldn't hurt to keep it since they're so expensive.

i just looked it up and it looks like its 7 companies that have recalled them over the last few years, but that a free safety kit would be available...so don't toss out the cribs just yet!

All of them, the CPSC said if you have one destroy it, or don't use it,and they cannot sell them . When my friend and I were shopping for her twins the lady at Sears cautioned her against buying a drop side, since they were being recalled/outlawed.

the "repair kit" makes it a fixed side crib. Basically brackets and screws to keep the sides from moving at all.
