NO, tropical storms have winds less than 74 MPH( my house was built to withstand cat4 winds, up to 155 MPH), , and even up to a category 2, I am not going anywhere. I will sit here with my Generator and my bottled water, and watch it happen.

I can't imagine... Now here, we get snowstorms like nobody's business, dumping multiple feet of snow at a time, and the occasional ice storms and Noreasters which really stink. But if we get a super heavy rain or some high winds or even a tiny whirlwind which might take a couple shingles and we're all in a knot..lol. Hope this just passes you by quickly and uneventfully.

I guess that makes sense -- the fish would be coming inland to escape the storm... Well, if you catch anything at least you'll have fresh fish if the storm does hit you.

Yeah, we are. We were fishing in the gulf the day Katrina hit. I caught the biggest Redfish I have ever SEEN.

It's just a tropical storm, we will get wet, have some wind, but nothing like Ike or Rita.

Not a big deal to some of you that have tornadoes often, but it's a huge deal here...we never get them..I wonder if why we're starting to get them, and get them more frequently then before if it has anything to do with global warming?

I hope it's not bad, for them or anyone in it's path. New Orleans got Soooo much more attention than other places/other storms, but they also had far more deaths. Property damage is bad, but at least you guys were safe.

It won't be a direct hit on New orleans, being it is inland....Grand Isle probably. Right across the lovely oil slick.

If you look at the trackarchives, Katrina never hit New Orleans, the eye never passed over Jefferson parish in any shape or form. They got rain and wind from outer bands....and the levy's broke....

Thats just the thing- The media wants sooo badly to have a story that they actually were IN New Orleans COVERING the huricane that just hit down in Northern Mexico.

Katrina just really leaves a bad taste in my mouth, the problems they had were man made, and will be there always.

I hope noone gets a huricanne,- but its gonna happen- I just get tired of the media trying to make them all about NO.

The local people have been all over town today, asking about this TS. Seriously, we got alot of damage, but we picked up our big girl pants and dealt with it....it's over, they should all get over it.

Girl, you know as well as I do that if they have a microphone and a camera they are hitting their knees praying they get the next 'katrina' here in our front door.

Its stupid. We've had huricanes for years, they never got this much attention, but you let one mayor let his city go to pot, let busses flood and people drown, and now huricannes are the closest thing to a second coming as far as the news is concerned...

Ain't that the truth. There was so many bad things that could have been prevented. I remember that the governor didn't even request help from the national guard for a few days. And the press just did the worst job of covering that fairly. At first the news all said everything was just fine and then they started showing it wasn't and THEN they started just making up BS right and left. They said at least a hundred people died inside either from the horrid living conditions or from being murdered. In reality they only found six dead in the superdome and none of them were murdered. But that's not as exciting.

It's just like when a tiny little tornado (barely qualified as one) hit our town. We have all these stores that sell fancy hand-crafted quilts and pottery to the tourist. That's where the tornado touched down. Well the Lexington news reported that the national guard had been called out to prevent looting. Not true. Some of our local members of the national guard stopped by to look at the damage and decided to direct traffic because everyone else in town decided to drive by and look too. We're a tiny little town and there was nothing better to do, LOL. But looters? Stealing wet quilts and broken pottery? Give me a break!

I knowKaren. Its pathetic. and what you didnt hear is that city took guns from EVERYONE of the CITIZENS.
LEGAL gunowners. There was couple that was packing up and leaving after the huricanne hit. The cops came by and took ALL their guns that were IN airline approved locked cases.

The cops went to one OLD ladies house, asked if she had a gun, she said yes, they tackled her. It was a 6 shot revolover. a .32 I think. in her bedroom IN the drawer. a legal gun she used for protection.

FINALLY the NRA won a suit to getthem all returned and have a law passed that they cant do that anymore. And NO had to return EVERY gun. they are still sitting in non climate controlled containers, everything from antique flint locks to modern handguns. rusted and ruined.

But thats not what was shown on TV. they DID show the looters, somewhat. There was video of a cop toting out a big screen TV. wonder if he still has a job?

They actually wentto the placs that were hit harder, to try and get stories, but those folks were picking up, pulling themselves back up by their bootstraps and getting on with life. they left quickly...

MY Aunt had almost no damage to her house, she stayed, and noone tok her guns.....but she probably didn't tell anyone she had them. And frankly, money talks to the city of NO, and she has boatloads.
She pretty much didn't let anyone know she was there. She was lucky, she didn't get flooded, but I have tons of relatives that did....but there was alot of stuff that was reported wrong, or made up...or not reported at all.

What the hell happened to the right to bear arms? That's awful. I know the good cops (there are good ones) were probably scared to death of the few people who were looting, raping, etc. Especially when a third or more of the police force evacuated IN city owned police cars. But that's all the more reason the law abiding citizens should have had their guns. When you can't count on help coming, sometimes you need the means to help yourself.

exactly karen- thats what the big stink was about. A federal law was passed saying that you couldnt do it anymore. Thats why they are fighting cities like chicago and DC right now.

Those cities say you are not allowed to own a handgun to use for protection-- period.

My gun is the first thing I want if there is looting going on, or total anarchy. LOL
