Diagnose me?

Post by edbson on Wed Jun 30, 2010 12:13 am

OK, here is my problem, and NO I do not need an MRI, according to Dr Google ( Bayley) i do.....I am NOT pregnant, and I do have an ulcer, which I am taking meds for... I ttake Tagamet, and have for years, I have had an ulcer since I was 9. I have taken every imaginable thing for it, even antibiotics, and Tagamet is the only thing that works.
I go about my day normally, I clean, I sew, etc...I eat normally. Until evening, and then suddenyl I am starving to death, eating like a lumberjack, I mean 11 pieces of French toast eating, and half a box of cereal, and a hershey bar. My blood sugar has stayed relatively stable, surprisingly. I am also waking up in the middle of the night STARVING.TO.DEATH. I ate 4 blueberry flax seed waffles at 3 am, and one was still frozen.....then i got up at 8, had 2 cups of coffee, and my usually egg white on flax toast..

I seem to be craving carbs too, and gluten...which is odd, I try to avoid Gluten as much as possible.

That's no good! If you do that for too long you will start having problems with blood sugar.

Let me ask a question. Do you drink much caffiene in the morning? If you're super tired your body will start craving carbs to make up for sleep. Scott has very bad sleep apnea and that's one of his symptoms. He's kind of OK while he has caffiene in his system, but when that wears off, he either gets really, really sleepy or really, really hungry.

I'm tending to think either metabolic disorder or sleep disorder. It's not normal to wake up in the middle of the night to eat. So either you're metabolizing what you eat so fast that you have to wake up to get calories, or your sleep is already wonky and calories are your body's way of making up for it.

Dr. Karen recommends testing the caffiene idea by taking less in the AM and/or more in the evening to see if it curbs the late night carb attack. And no matter how that test works out, you should ask your doc to run blood tests and/or refer you to a sleep specialist. But Dr. Karen has no medical credentials so take her advice with a grain of salt.

I drink one cup of espresso roast coffee in the morning, or i cannot function. Espresso roast is a dark roast, with less cafeine
I aondering if It can be one of those perimenopause symptoms. I already have hot flashes, and a whole list of others, and things aren't as regular as they used to be. My Mom had menopause at 32, and my grandma at 40...so i am headed in that direction

I have a Dr appt with my endocrinologist next week.....if I can fit in the car by then.

Good. He/she should be able to give you a better idea of what's causing it.

As to the espresso, maybe try a few sips with dinner tomorrow to see if that makes a difference. It makes a difference for Scott, but only when he's sick and can't use his CPAP (machine that keeps him from stopping breathing during the night).

I go through stages like that. well, I used to- now I'm eating everything under the sun cause I'm taking B-vitamin complex, cause I need energy. Which is screwing withme. its got something in it that makes you constipated- which doesnt work with IBS. my body is confused as hell. LOL

I'd chalk it up to your body wants it. But I try to avoid dr's at all costs. LOL the main thing I'd do is make sure your body is getting all the nutrition it needs from the foods your taking. Maybe taking a vitamin will help with that.

Chelle, instead of B-complex,why don't you try this other supplement called D-RIBOSE? it comes in chewables and in powder form.It gives you energy,my brother and Dr OZ swear by it.Since you have IBS I would call my doctor first to ask,but I'm pretty sure there shouldn't be a problem

Athena, I gave up on Dr's when an interalist or gastrowhatever specialist told me "just take up to 8 immodium's a day. (be sure you get the extra strength) - decided it was just a condition that I would live with. Its better than the gall bladder I had to start with. LOL

I'll check into that. Mostly what I need is energy. and alot of it. LOL

I've taken a B-Complext for years, I'm talking, 20? and other than yellow pee, no side effects.

If you're having problems with constipation, try a Triple Magnesium Complex. I take 3 a day... so regular that my life is good :-) It consistes of 400 mg of Magnesium, 350 from mggnesium oxide, 40 mg from magnesium citrate and 10 mg from magnesium asparate. We buy them on line from Swansons, which is where we buy about 90% of our supplements.
3 a day gives me 3 a day, if you get my gist LOL

B vitamins keep mosquitoes from biting you.
Magnesium is good, but I would go with a more bioavailable formula, only 50 mgs of that is absorbable.....so the other 350 is basically wasted.

I called the Dr again this morning, and went in...couldn't stand it anymore. He upped my Tagamet, and gave me Protonix. It seems I have "classic Gastric ulcer" symptoms.....we'll see if it works.
