Finished the B&W Cupcakes!

Post by Lori on Thu Jun 03, 2010 10:33 pm

I made these for my niece's bridal shower tomorrow. Her wedding colors are black and white, so that's what she wanted the cupcakes to be.

Some are chocolate and the white ones are champagne flavor.

Thanks, guys!

Yeah, the Champagne Cupcakes are easy. Use a Betty Crocker White cake mix (I used French Vanilla) and add 3 egg whites, 1/3 cup oil, and 1 1/4 C. champagne. Bake at 350 for 17-22 minutes. The original recipe was for Pink Champagne CUpcakes, so they added 4 or 5 drops of red food color. If you look at the recipe on the box, all you're doing is substituting champagne for the water.

Those are adorable! I love how the white/black contrast is intensified by the glitter on the white. Very nice job!

Thanks, Karen. I used chunky white sugar on the tops. It does add sparkle. I want to stock up on it. I bought black chunky sugar too, but didn't like how it looked. Let DH and DS eat those 2. The flowers just didn't pop enough with black chunky sugar tossed on there, too.

The sugar crystals sure do look like like giltter... and agreee the black sugar sugar wouldn't have looked as good. Very professional looking. Really like that not everyone had the same floral on it. I'm so impressed .

Oh Lori I LOVE the flowers!!

the sparkle in the middle looks so good, and those cupcake papers are ADORABLE!!

I need to invest in the chunky sugar. I've never seen it!!

I think I might start to offer that cake mix, if you dont mind... although, I dont like champagne and would have to give it to someone after I used part. LOL

does it matter what kind? cause they all taste like flat watered down beer to me... which I hate when its fresh and full ... LOL

Chelle, mine was an old cheap bottle. I didn't buy it special. I have seen small bottles of champagne in specialty stores. Like enough for one. That would work, but more than likely you're doubling and tripling recipes, so you might be surprised how much of a bottle you go through.

The cupcake papers were from The Layer Cake Shop (online). I loved how they looked with the champagne flavor, but with the chocolate, the darker color sort of showed through the white part of the papers so the patterns were more muted.

The cupcakes were a big hit! Lots of compliments on how they looked and tasted. My SIL had borrowed a 3-tiered cupcake tower, and we placed cupcakes all around that, and the rest were set around it on the cupcake table.
