Gum Paste Q for the Cake Decorators

Post by Lori on Mon May 17, 2010 7:46 am

If I can't find gum paste around here (I looked at Meijer in their cake decorating area and they only had fondant), what should I order? On Amazon I see:
Wilton Ready to Use Gum Paste, Wilton Gum Paste Mix, Wilton Gum-Tex, and Satin Ice Gum Paste in tubs. Which do you use or recommend?

Question

I would use the Wilton, it is probably the best and a familiar name brand, the ready to use one.

I was hoping you'd say that, Erin. It's on a 4 for 3 promotion right now at Amazon. Easier to order than drive all over looking for someone that has it in stock.

I'd go ahead and buy the ready to use too. I try to find the powder now, because I know the consistiancy, and its usually cheaper. Plus, It will last until I need to make it up. But its basicly the same thing. I prefer to mix in some fondant, it makes it plyable for longer, and easier to work work I think.

Lori- did you try walmart? The one closest to me that they just remodeled has an entire cake section, 3 aisles of pans, fondant, gumpaste etc... mostly all wilton stuff.

I will go to Walmart today, so I may glance at the Wilton stuff there, but I just ordered it from Amazon. It was free because I had gift credit, and with free shipping and the 4 for 3 promotion...how could I refuse? I picked up a Wilton 32-Piece Gum Paste Flower-Making Set that was on promotion, too. I only wish it was easier to find the items that qualify for the 4-for-3. It seems very hit and miss when you search.

I was surprised that Meijer didn't have any gum paste. They had a pretty good selection, otherwise.
