Need some help...

Post by amybeccaz on Thu Apr 22, 2010 7:17 am

Hey everyone ~

I have a friend of mine who can't have children, and has been able to adopt one child, but is patiently waiting for the next one (OK, unpatiently). Both she & her husband are AMAZING parents to their 2 year old daughter. Amazing! Someone nominated their families to get a big photoshoot to help in their adoption journey to print out cards, show on their blog/website, etc.

The thing ends today, and if you can, go here: www.therhouse.blogspot.com and vote on the upper left corner for JEREMY & LESLIE. You can only vote one per browser.... I did it three times so far, once on my itouch, my FF & my IE. Very Happy They're losing, and desperately could use this shoot to help their portfolio out big time.

THANKS Y'ALL!!

I just voted again... 3 more times... they're up to 319 but the first couple is still leading by 60+ points... I'd try more, but site takes forever to load and I need to go shower... I just came in from mowing. I hope enough people vote tonight to help them win... they certain do look and sound like a wonderful family with love to share with another baby.

I have to say.. after a quick rethink. I realize this was just for their portfolio and not a vote for who should adopt a child. However it does seem like it was supposed to have an effect.

Really... do we decide who can adopt based on their portfolio and pics? In a way, this just seems wrong..

Shouldn't it be based on who are the best parents and best able to care for the child?

Really.. I didn't mean to bring this thread down or turn it into a debate but in some way this just seems wrong to me.

I agree Connie... completely agree.

Sometimes I think things such as good pictures "pop" out to a person, like the first time you see someone, & can be a positive & lasting impression on a person.

Some of these girls who are placing a baby are teenagers, and probably DO think about how the couple looks.. what they do, etc. Some of these portfolios of families tells the pregnant gal what the family does, how they celebrate events, etc. I mean, most of the families even put together presents for the girl, in a way.. to "woo" her. So, it happens. They want a baby and will do ANYTHING to get a baby. My friend had an opportunity last month to be selected. She & her hubs were basically chosen (and another couple), but she didn't feel right about the whole thing, and KNEW the baby wasn't supposed to be theirs. And the girl did choose the other couple in the long run.

Aww what a sweet story! Good for your friend for making the right decision. You are right in that many will do anything and Im sure there are many who would have taken the baby even though they had a "feeling".

Although I don't agree with that idiot mom who put her child on a plane back to Russia recently, I think it HAS helped to bring a lot of problems to light with the adoption process.

I guess Im seeing the whole thing as a popularity contest (who has the best portfolio) rather than how I feel it should be.. potential parents meet with mom. Mom asks questions, talks about her hopes and dreams for the baby, parents talk about what they hope to bring to babies life.. so on and so forth.. mom makes the decision she feels is best for her baby.

I have to agree to disagree. When I was 19, I got pregnant, and the birthfather and I had different ideas about the whole situation..... so I chose adoption..but but in the late 60's babies were abundant, because birthmom's only had 3 options (abort .. which was illegal and nothing I would have choose), single parenthood (when it wasn't accepted and there wasn't financial or emotion support) or adoption (and we didn't have a choice to pick the parents... )I chose adoption without knowing who the parents would be.. flash forward 19 years met the parents, my birthdaughter, and today all have a very nice realtionship (in fact, 23 years later, I'm probably closer to her parents and my 3 granddaughers than my own birthdaugher LOL)

If open adoption or where girls have the chance to "pick" a family based on a photo and bio were options, I would have gone for it... for me, it was the luck of the draw, and it turned out great.

Within the last 22 years, my niece got pg out of wedlock, went for open adoption, chosing the family from a portifolio, and they are great.... Laura has the opportunity to see her son, visit with the parents. and everything from what I've heard sounds great for all who it touches.

So, don't be too quick to put down the idea of a professiona/real/great portifilo!
