New Sweden is a tiny town outside of Caribou, it doesn't even have a highschool, it's students go to Caribou High School. I live in Connor which is a township outside of Caribou that also has no highschool, so we went to Caribou High School as well. Connor Twp, New Sweden and Woodland students all go to Caribou High. I worked with a woman named Kathie who's uncle was the one man who died.....the rest all lived but some still do have effects from the poisoning.

You know I just now read Along came a spider and I like it so much more than the movie I have to say.... except I kept hearing Morgan Freeman's voice while I was reading Rolling Eyes

The book I'm reading now has so many mistakes in it, it's just really driving me batty. It was an early edition or something - the pages are just a little rough around the edges, but other than that it appears to be a finished novel, with the complete cover etc. It's just a real pet peeve of mine to find obvious mistakes.

So do a good job, mandja! Don't give the proofreaders anything to miss. Your SIL's readers will thank you for it!

KellyM wrote:I am reading "A Bitter Brew" by Christine Ellen Young. It's a true story based on the New Sweden aresenic poisonings that occured here. I went to school with few of the people mentioned in the book (Eric Margeson being one of them)and have had Dr Harrigan a few times in the ER. The couple other crimes that are briefly referenced in there I personally knew those people as well, Robert Rossignol was a classmate, and Tara (Roy) Bell was a very close friend of mine and also was my daycare provider for a few years...I miss her. You wouldn't think in such a rural area as this that this stuff would happen but it does.

I would love to read it, but my local library does not have it, nor do the ones that they trade with. I will have to keep looking for it. I love to read true stuff like that, and this sounds interesting. I think I recall hearing about it, but not sure.

I can get it off of paperback swap, but I have no credits yet... waiting on someone to get one of my books.

I have recently read Enslaved by Ducks and Fowl Weather by Bob Tarte. These are about his life with his many pets. Laugh out loud reading, and shed a tear too...

I read Sarah's Key. A very good read about a family, actually two families, that were affected by the the round up of Jewish families in 1942, and their subsequent murder. It is also about the good and kind strangers who helped to save some of them.

The Longest Trip Home which was by John Grogan, who wrote Marley and Me. Its a memoir, and while not as good as Marley, was interesting.

Beside a Burning Sea by John Shors is a wonderful read by an excellent storyteller.

There have been more, but these are the most recent. I was invited to be an Amazon Vine reviewer, so every month I can choose 4 items to get free, promising to review them. Easy!
Amazon gives away everything from food to books to electronics for review, but I am mostly offered books, Perfect for me.

I am about 4 chapters into Lose It For Life . I really like it so far. Its a book about lifestyle changes as opposed to dieting. And it has a Christian foundation to it. A different approach, that's for sure.

Books right now

Post by workingmomof1 on Fri Jun 05, 2009 3:36 pm

I just finished the Dark Tower series by Stephen King. If you have not read it, in my opinion it is his best work ever. I also just finishes Black House by King and Staub which has a ton of Dark Tower references. Kind of nerdy I know but I really liked it.

The other series I am reading is the Anne Rice Chronicles of the Vampire. I just finished Interview with the Vampire and am now on The Vampire Lestat. This one is shaping up to be better than the first book.

I've wanted to read all of those! I'm a super nerd. I'm watching star trek on a different tab right now, LOL. I had to pause it because my son had to get up and he's never seen these older ones. Now he's hooked.

I've read all those, excellent books. The first "real" book I read was the tommyknockers, I was 8 and it took me two weeks of hiding it from my mother, lol. I really enjoyed Black House but Anne Rice is my favorite, I love all her book but the witch ones are the best IMO.

Jodi Picoult takes situations in life and talks about it in a novel way. Kind of like "My sister's Keeper". It's a story about a girl who was created specifically in mind for her sister, who has cancer (leukemia). She basically is the link to keep her sister alive. Well, she's tired of it... it's her body. She gets a lawyer to help defend her & her body so that she doesn't get subjected to all the pain, etc for her sister to live.

It's those kind of stories, the ones that tug at your heart, but she spins it in a way that you just are so captivated during the entire read. I've read about 5 or 6 of her novels so far... amazing!
